At General Byng we:
- Speak kindly to one another.
- Use our manners.
- Include everyone.
Homework
Homework assignments are meant to help you practice and reinforce what you learned in class. By doing the homework assigned and keeping up with the work, you will find yourself in a strong position to excel on quizzes and tests. It is expected that each student consistently do their homework and prepare for all tests and quizzes.
Goals
It is essential to work towards your goals and try hard to improve as a student. By making appropriate and realistic goals and taking action steps towards reaching these goals, you will become a better student. Celebrate your achievements. Be proud of the work that you are doing and remind yourself that small steps and improvements are very good!
Agendas
Agendas are to be brought to and from school by the students each day. They are meant to help keep students organized with what is going on at school, writing down such things as homework assignments and upcoming events at school. Agendas are also another way that our class can maintain an open wave of communication with school and home. Please check your child’s agenda regularly.
School Supplies/Lockers
This year the school will be purchasing the necessary school supplies for students. Each student will be given a locker to share with a classmate. Lockers are meant to store student’s school belongings. Please don’t send valuables or electronics (cell phones, Ipods, DS, etc.) to school with your child.
Water Bottles
Students are welcome to bring washable water bottles to school to fill and drink from in the classroom. Please ensure that your child’s bottle is labeled with his or her name. Water bottles will be sent home for washing on a regular basis. Water only, please!
Home Reading
It is recommended that each student read at home for at least 15-20 minutes per evening.
Healthy Snacks
Nutritious snack choices such as fruit, vegetables, cheese & crackers, dry cereal and yogurt are acceptable.“Treat” foods such as chips, fruit jellies, pudding and cookies will be kept as a dessert for the lunch hour.
Please do not send foods containing nuts, as there are students with life threatening allergies in our school and in our classroom.
Scholastic Book Orders
Each month, I will be sending home several Scholastic Book Order forms targeting a variety of reading and age levels. If
you would like some suggestions about what books might be appropriate for your child please let me know.
If you would like to order, please make sure that your money (cheque preferred) and order forms are returned to the school by the date specified. Please make the cheque out to Scholastic.
Fidget Spinners/Toys
I believe there is value in having something to fidget with while sitting in class if your child has difficulty staying focused or has the need to play with something to help keep their attention. I am not promoting the use of these fidget spinners/toys, but I am allowing them to be used in our class. If the fidget spinners/toys are being used in a way that is too distracting to the student or class, ex: throwing them, making noise with them, trading them, then I will be forced to take them away from the student. Thank you for your support in this matter.
